Super Series Success!

Erica Byram bike leg

Saturday 9th June saw the third event of the British Triathlon Super Series take part at Roundhay Park Leeds. The start of a very exciting weekend of racing for juniors, seniors and of course the World ITU Race.

Lucy Byram bike leg

Erica and Lucy Byram took part in the Elite Super Series race on the Saturday Morning.  The swim of 400m was fast and furious with both girls unfortunately taking kicks to the face and Lucy losing ground because of the contact bravely fought her way back to the pack but lost valuable places.  With a long run from the water to transition Erica was in 11th place with Lucy in 19th working hard on the run up to T1.  Both girls gained places and were out onto the 10k bike in 9th Erica, and 16th for Lucy.

Erica Byram transition

The two lap bike course was around the park and adjoining roads. Both girls being strong riders made up ground on other athletes and Erica was in first place back into T2 and Lucy had moved up to 9th place.

Erica Byram finish

Erica quickly out of T2 kept her head and was first out onto the run. Again gaining a place in T2 Lucy set off on the run in 8th place. The undulating 2.5k run course suited both Erica and Lucy and they both worked hard to keep form over this short distance.  Erica managed to extend her lead over the chasing girls and finished 1st in 37:47 her first podium place of the Series this year. Lucy with a super run gained more places and finished 6th in 38:52 a great result.

Next up for Erica at the end of the month will be her first ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup in Holten, Netherlands. Lucy will be racing in the British Elite Triathlon Championships in Cardiff later this month.
