2018 WYXC League, Race 3

Sunday 18 November, Thornes Park, Wakefield

Holmfirth Harriers travelled to Thornues Park, Wakefield for the third race in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League. Varying results over the first two races in the series meant that both individual and team prizes were still up for grabs and once again conditions were perfect for the road/track runners.

 WYXCL 3 2018 RubySykes

Ruby Sykes on for a win

The senior women’s race provided much excitement for Holmfirth supporters.  With Helen Berry out of action following an operation on her leg, it was left to the in-form Ruby Sykes to lead the Holmfirth women home, and she did it in style!  Up with the leading group of five athletes, headed in the early stages by local international Julie Briscoe, Ruby ran a very well-paced race. She kept in contact with the group for the entire race, taking advantage on the uphill sections.  It came down to the final 100m, lying in second place, when her track-speed paid off, overtaking the race leader, Becky Penty of York Knavesmire, in a spectacular finish to take the win by just one second (20:34).

WYXC 3 2018 FionnKerry Steve Green
