Harriers at the Hudds 5k Series

A new local race for 2018 the Huddersfield 5k series is held on four consecutive Thursdays up at Greenhead Park. Many runnners are familiar with the park from the popular Saturday parkrun. This race is a different (debated faster) course with three big laps of the park. Utilising the Cannonball chip timing system it provides a good opportunity for fast and accurate times.

The first race was on 05/07/2018 and being a new race had a smaller turnout than later in the series. That said 9 Harriers took part, Luc Burnip was 1st overall and Debbie Beck 2nd lady. Harriers also sweeping up the male and female team prizes.

The second race the following Thursday 12/07/2018 saw race numbers grow and 15 Harriers toed the start line. Luc turned up late but still managed a second place finish, close to the winning time the previous week. We also had Liz Woodfield winning W40 and Rob Kersey winning M65. Harriers were second team in both Men’s and Women’s.

Race three also incorporated the Yorkshire Vets champs so numbers swelled. 24 Harriers were at the park on the warm evening. Claire Leaver-Hewitt 1st lady and Luc Burnip 2nd overall. Team 2nd for the men and women’s 3rd for the club.

The final race in the series had 17 Harriers run. There was some great performances, with Luc Burnip 1st overall. In the teams the women took 1st and 2nd! With the men 1st and 3rd team. Liz Woodfield 1st W40 and Sean McCaffrey 1st M50.

Park group - race 4

All the champs points are being tallied and an update is due to follow. This was a big chance for points as with the clash with the club 10 runners only had to complete 3 of the 4 races in the series to earn the bonus points!

We had great weather for he races and is what summer evening races are all about. With the race ties with Magic Rock there was good opportunity for a beer after the race (free half with your race number). Plus plenty of prizes for age categories and teams.

This report is just the highlights of the races but there was plenty of great running for all the full results and some official pictures, follow the link below:

The next race is the fast a furious Meltham Manic Murder Mile, closely followed by the Shepley 10k on 09/09/2018. Both these are local races so worth double points on the champs!

All the best,
Clark
