Salford 10K, 2018

30 March 2018

It was Good Friday in sunny Salford and before we could indulge in Easter treats, there was a matter of the 4th race on the club's 2018 Road Championships.

After rain overnight, we were blessed with good conditions on the day. Cool, with little wind. 9 of us made it over in the minibus and 17 Harriers in total were there for the race.

Team photo opportunity before many PB's and great performances

The course isn’t what you would call scenic; two 5k laps along a road and a couple of twists through housing and factory lanes. There is a cobbled section most runners tried to avoid. In avoiding the cobbles runners were bunched up on the pavement and some of the earlier runners (no Harriers thankfully) went into a metal barrier on the side of the pavement. After the accident a marshal was posted at the end of the barrier, so runners were aware.

First back from the club was Aaron Kettlewell, finishing in 22nd position overall in a time of 00:33:07. Fastest lady from the club was Helena Croft as 28th lady in a time of 00:41:31, looking strong from her London Marathon training.

There was a plethora of PB’s showing the returns on some recent hard work by runners at the club. Best times over 10k for: Brandon Holroyd, Edward Pritchard, Craig Sheard, Phil Brown, Heidi King and me!

Due to an accident on the motorway it took a little longer than expected to get back to the club but we all made it back safe and sound, without my minibus driving being too tested.

It was great to see a good number of Harriers going over for the race, hopefully this can continue at the road championship races for the rest of the year. Be proud to run in your Amber vest!

The next race on the champs is the North Lincolnshire Half Marathon on the 6th May (https://tape2tape.co.uk/events/north-lincolnshire-half-marathon-2/) Depending on the amount of interest we can take the club bus and have a trip similar to the Essar Four Villages race in January.

After the Salford 10k and Club 6 this month, please see the current standings in the road champs. Well done to everyone competing so far and remember there are plenty more points to be had (especially at the Joe Percy 10k and the Huddersfield 5k park series). Remember you MUST complete 8 races to be eligible for the championship. Each race in the park series counts individually.

If I have missed you off the results for any reason, please let me know.

Cheers!

Clark
