Dewsbury 10K

A crisp February morning in West Yorkshire brought us the second race in the 2018 road championships. The local favourite and once again sold out, Dewsbury 10k. Famed for its no nonsense, un-picturesque route out along Bradford Road. The course goes out 5km, around a cone and then back. A race with plenty of PB potential on the right day.

After a splattering of snow and rain on Saturday the conditions on Sunday morning were ideal. Cold but no wind and no rain (pleasant compared to the Four Villages half a few weeks ago!)

19 Harriers were on the start line, 12 men and 7 ladies. There is nowhere to hide on this race. It is a flat, out and back, run as fast as you can 10km. With a slight gradient to the turnaround point, giving runners a downhill boost on the return 5km.

There were some great performances. Highlights from the race saw PB’s for Juan Biurrun, Dinah Coggon and Debbie Beck. Good to see Helen Standing making a return to racing ways.

The, erm, interesting t-shirt design made the local news - https://www.examiner.co.uk/news/dewsbury-10k-runners-free-shirt-14245497

The race is a good test to see how recent training has been going and those looking to improve on their times could be interested in the Salford 10k on Good Friday. This race is also on the road race calendar and offers potential for quick times.

The next race in the 2018 calendar is the Huddersfield 10k. Completely different to Dewsbury, with a more undulating route starting in Lockwood and going up and round Netherton. Although this race clashes with the National Cross Country in London, it would be good to see plenty of Amber vests out at this local race right on our doorstep. As a local race it has double points this year for the championship. Entry below.

Happy running and well done to everyone at the Dewsbury 10k!

All the best,

P.S. I added a few pictures on the Facebook group. I am sure ‘official’ pictures will turn up online soon.
