Joe Percy 10K, race details

Thank you to all who have pre-registered; 41 Harriers have entered to run this year.  If you've not entered and would like to run, please contact me using the contact details below.

Directions

The postcode of race HQ is HD8 0WA and the complex can be reached from Huddersfield by following the A629 Penistone Road and turning right onto Storthes Hall Lane shortly after passing the traffic lights by the White Swan.

Parking

The main car park has 140 spaces, please park sensibly and if the park is full, you may park on the left hand side only on the one way system above the bus stop, or below the main exit, or on the gravel area opposite the main entrance.

Start and Finish

The race start is located on private land above the University campus, this can be reached by taking the exit road from the campus, turning left up Storthes Hall Lane and left through the gates into the private property.

The race HQ is now fully refurbished and has changed its name from "The Arboretum" to "The Venue".

The start is approx 600 metres from the Venue so please allow sufficient time to get to the start area in time for a prompt 19.30 start. Please also do not use any of the private land as a make shift toilet as we need to keep the owners on our side for future events!!

Registration

Helen Standing and Hayley Rose have kindly volunteered to help with registration which will be from 6:30pm.  I'm not 100% of what we'll be presented with on arrival or whether there will be any grass to place the Harriers flag.. It will be made clear on the night.

Please bring your £8 entry fee for Helen and Hayley (try and bring correct money), check your Vet Category/age (if appropriate), sign the form and you'll be handed your race and timing chip.  If you can bring safety pins that would be helpful as I don't know what will be available on the night.

You must run in your club vest.

Route and course safety

The course is principally the same as before comprising two laps on the tops around Farnley Tyas and Thurstonland, but with the start and finish now on private land adjacent to Storthes Hall University Accommodation.

Although the course has little traffic, concern has been expressed by Kirklees Council and Highways that runners will be competing on a live 60 mph road, therefore runners must remain fully aware of the dangers that this may present and keep to the left at all times, particularly on the narrow section of Farnley Rd leading into the village.  In addition, the course has been measured using the shortest line, which includes running on the pavement from the bollards at the start of Butts Road through to Butts Close in Farnley Tyas village.

In accordance with Rule 240 S5 of UKA Competition Rules 2016 – 2018, runners must not wear any form of music playing device as they must be able to hear instructions from marshals and be aware of traffic, failure to comply with this rule will result in withdrawal from the race or removal from results.

Runners on reaching the top of Storthes Hall Lane, will turn right and immediately cross to the left hand side of Farnley Rd, marshals will be in place but please be aware that traffic may not be as patient as we runners are.

At the end of the second lap, once past the Wood Lane junction, runners will be directed across the road and remain on the right to the top of Storthes Hall Lane, please do not anticipate this crossing point and attempt to cross early, wait till you reach the marshals and follow their instructions.

On turning right down Storthes Hall Lane, runners must remain on the right hand side and use the pavement until the run in to the finish.

Facilities

  • The University Bar will be open.
  • Catering is provided for all runners courtesy of Marsh Mallow.
  • Toilets are available on site with additional porta loos supplied if required.
  • Car parking is available on the campus and will be sign posted.
  • No showers or changing facilities will be available

Finally

Experience tells me, it can get nippy so please bring a jacket or hoodie to keep warm. Enjoy yourselves, support one another and good luck with your run :)
