2018 Road Championship results

Road Secretary, Clark Hind reports:

It’s been a great year organising the road championship for the club and I hope it has been enjoyed by people competing. Although, at the end of the day there is points and a trophy for the winner it’s great to see people out running in Amber and representing the club. First or last, racing is about seeing what you can do and pushing yourself beyond a normal training run. A trip over to a race builds comradery with your fellow club mates and you never know who you might end up being chums with. It is good to have a strong presence at local races, as well supporting other clubs.

2018 female winner

After the Travellers 6 on Sunday here are the final standings. In the women’s championship, two ladies met the qualifying criteria but, in the end, a clear winner appeared!

Points, Name, Races

  • 402, Debbie Beck, 15
  • 335, Becky Burdon, 13

Well done to Debbie!

And, in the men. There were more men completing races and more reaching the qualifying criteria. It ended up being a closer competition and a winner is crowned!

Points, Name, Races

  • 347, Edward Pritchard, 11
  • 324, Jon Burdon, 14
  • 205, Rob Kersey, 10

Edward Pritchard
2018 male winner

It would seem the Burdon’s had a full-on assault at the road championships. Relative new recruit Ed had a good set of results and our president Rob Kersey coming in 3rd.

A few stats from the champs:

  • 16 Races
  • 92 members took part in at least one race (56 men/36 women)
  • Biggest turnout was 39 at the Joe Percy 10k

I am more than happy for people to provide feedback, comments and suggestions for the champs it is something I want to continue to build at the club.

So, if you want to get involved next year, the race listings will soon be published. The first race will be the Meltham ‘tough’ 10k. I always love seeing new faces at a race, don’t be shy say hello!
