Fell Championship update & Final standings

Dan Shaw 240

Dan Shaw

The Litton Christmas Cracker race on Sunday 13th brought this year’s Fell Championship to an end. Technically, the mens championship was still up for grabs, but with Phil Hobbs & John Ewart injured, Dan Shaw just had to finish to ensure the title was his! He actually had a great race, finishing 13th overall to complete the series in style, topping the table with 169 points, ahead of Phil Hobbs on 152 points & John Ewart on 151 points, so many congratulations to him. Good to see Bill Hunter maintaining his tradition of qualifying for the championship by completing the 7 races & coming back with 136 points – not bad for a V60! Over the year, we’ve had over 30 taking part, with 5 racing at least 7 times and it was good to see some new faces venturing onto the fells. Hopefully 2016 will tempt even more of you out there!

For the ladies, 16 took part during the year, but only Helen Berry was able to complete the necessary 7 races & has duly retained her title, scoring 101 points. Again, it was pleasing to see some fell newbies amongst the ladies & we look forward to encouraging more to take part in 2016. The All-to-Count competition race was won by Dan Shaw on 265 points, ahead of Phil Hobbs on 247 points & Helen Berry on 230 points.

Looking ahead to 2016, I have once again endeavoured wherever possible to avoid any clashes with Road Relays, Cross Country events, Vets Grand Prix races etc & have also tried to tie in races with the juniors so that we have a significant Harriers presence at as many events as possible.

The format for 2016 will be the same as this year, with 7 races to be completed from the 15 available & which must include 2 of each length. The calendar will be announced very shortly, but the first race will be the very friendly (and totally suitable for beginners) Stanbury Splash over at Haworth on Sunday 17th January – see you there.
