2012 Junior Fell Championships - Final Standings

Junior Fell Championship update & Final standings

Although the weather tried its hardest to spoil the fun this year, our juniors still turned out in numbers to contest the championship – nearly 30 took part in the 10 race series throughout the year, with over 20 competing in at least 3 races. It was great to see so many Holmfirth vests at races near and far & all that took part seemed to enjoy the experience, whatever the conditions!

Special mentions for Daisy Smith, Eddie Hinchliffe, Harry Hobbs & George Hobbs who ran all 10 races & to all the parents who supported & ferried their athletes – hope you enjoyed it!

The final placings are as follows:

  • U10 Boys – 1st Callum Durrans, 2nd George Hobbs & 3rd Lewis Hodgson.Kids Cowpe
  • U10 Girls – 1st Ruby Yates
  • U12 Boys – 1st Ollie Rees & 2nd Harry Hobbs
  • U14 Girls – 1st Lucy Byram, 2nd Erica Byram & 3rd Genevieve Durrans
  • U16 Boys – 1st Eddie Hinchliffe
  • U18 Boys – 1st Robert Hinchliffe

There were some great performances throughout the year, particularly in the English Championship where the team finished 4th overall and Erica Byram was 2nd GU14 & Lewis Byram 3rd U16 and the Yorkshire Championships, where Callum Durrans won the U10’s, Eddie Hinchliffe was 3rd U16 & Ruby Sykes was 2nd GU16.

Looking ahead to 2013, the format of the competition will change slightly, with an increase in the number of races available to 12, but still the best 5 to count. This should hopefully ensure that the clashes we had this year with triathlons etc don’t play such a part & there are plenty of races for everyone to get their teeth into! Again, I have chosen all the English Championship races, which look to have a couple of new venues, including Church Stretton in Shropshire – should be chance for a bus trip or two?!

The calendar for 2013 will be published in the next few days – I’m just waiting for the Hawkswick English Championship date to be confirmed. In the meantime, first race will be the Stanbury Splash Rat Runs on Sunday 20th January – see you there!
