Last YVAA Multi-terrain GP of 2016
Category: Vets Published Date Hits: 338
On the 13th November 14 Harriers made the very short trip to Cleckheaton for the last YVAA multi-terrain event for 2016. The weather couldn’t have been better for this race, with bright sunshine and no wind. It was great to see 4 harriers out for the 1st time at one of these events (other than the one from Neiley) and hopefully they enjoyed them enough to come back for more in 2017. The 2017 race list will be posted out to members in the New Year as soon as it becomes available.
Dave Watson, being short of racing decided to get a lift to Cleckheaton, run the race then run home but still managed 2nd place, 2nd M45 in 31:15. Next home 28th was Andy France, M50, 36:40. Andy, running his first Vets GP, was one of a small group that missed a turn in the wood near the finish and so did an extra loop, losing places in the process but still seemed happy with his run. He was followed by 49th Andy Hauser 3rd M60, 39:19; 58th Ian Goulding, M50, 40:05; 63rd Rob Kersey 2nd M65, 40:32; 64th Debbie Hall F40, 40:35; 73rd Richard McLeod M45, 41:09; 78th Kevin Yewlett M60, 41:34; 107th Jacqueline France, F50, 43:27; 117th Neil Midgley, M65, 45:14; 135th Bill Hunter M65, 47:09; 144th Richard Smith 3rd M70, 48:44; 156th Bill Wade 2nd M75, 50:13; 164th Jane Stirling F45, 50:50. In all 194 runners took part from 28 clubs.
Rob and Debbie, about half a mile from finish, continue their battle of the last two years. With Debbie getting ever closer, just 3 seconds behind this time. She’ll get me for sure next year.
This year has been a very mixed one as far as Holmfirth is concerned in the GP races. Although we’ve had some good attendance and results at individual races, only Rosemary Baker, amongst the women, has managed to do enough races to qualify for the overall points score for the year. In fact coming 1st in the F55 category.
The men didn’t do a lot better with just Rob, 2nd M65, Neil Midgley,3rd M65 and Richard Smith M65 (now M70) doing the required number of races.
This has no doubt been due to a number of circumstances including injuries, other race priorities this year (marathons etc.), work / family commitments and in some cases just a lack of interest in racing!
