Week 1 - 2020 Virtual Club Championship

Weekly Update - 21 November 2020

2020 Virtual Club Championship - 10k
An update from Canal/River Trust (via Noreen Edery): The lock works near Marsden Railway Station will be completed by the end of the day of 27th November (this Friday) so the towpath will be fully clear from Saturday 28th.

Now that we are well into the championships I thought it would be useful to keep you all updated on a regular basis with details of what is going on and useful bits of information. Also, if you have any funny/interesting stories or snippets of things that happened on one of your runs/races, drop me a line and I will happily include them (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). This is the same for any general information you wish me to send out.

The runs are now starting to populate with, so far, the 5k being the most popular with 10 runs submitted. The runner with the most entries is currently Ruth Churchill Dover, who has times posted for 4 races - well done Ruth. She is closely followed by Kevin Dessoy & Jon Burdon with 3 each.

Get your times posted as soon as you race to keep the leaderboards up to date (thanks to Kevin Dessoy for his work here). If you missed Jon's earlier post I have copied the link to the live leaderboards below:-

Leaderboards

A few things to mention, in no particular order, are:-
  • If you decide to run one of the races and get a better time you are able to submit this and the leaderboard will be updated
  • The leaderboards will currently only show the time recorded on the day. Handicaps will be applied later in December to show the actual winners.
  • We accept that Strava can sometimes show slightly different distances for different people. Please try to stop your device on the actual distance or we may need to do some small adjustments.
  • On the 5k, the left turn going down Bradshaw Road is the row of terraced houses which has the "Private Road" sign on them. This is just before the Long Lane turn.
  • Be careful out there given the current weather. This is particularly so on the off road routes but, also, the 10k where there is a lot of water on the towpath and some very slippy cobbles - particularly Lock 39 Bridge 56 near Marsden.
  • The lock diversion at Marsden Station (10k) is still in place but, hopefully, will be completed early next week.
Finally I have copied the link to the results submission document below so you all have it to hand:-
