Holmfirth Harriers & Huddersfield Parkrun - Sea of Amber day - 22nd October 2011
On the 22nd October 2011, the organizers of Parkrun at Greenhead Park have kindly given permission for us to have a Harrier takeover day. The plan is that we would like as many club members as possible to come down in their amber running vests and run at the event.
What is Parkrun.
It is a free to enter 5km race that takes place at 9am every Saturday Morning, It's run in Greenhead Park, Park Drive, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, HD1 4HS.
Roughly 125 people take part in this race each week some as part of their speed work sessions, some purely for the opportunity to self improve and run with likeminded runners.
This event is open to all members of the club of ALL abilities, from those who represent the club at the highest level, to all those who take part on the ladies, fell, cross country and veterans circuit, to all those who run in puma's and tigers who have never taken part in a race before. Absolutely everybody young or old !!!!.
We would like everybody to come in club colours if possible so if you do not have a vest or shirt we've thought of that too, please ask on a club night or if your out shopping in town, please call in and see Richard and Jake in Up and Running. Vests are £15.
What do I need to do.
If you have not ran in a Parkrun before you will need to pre-register by 6pm on Friday 21st October 2011 at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/huddersfield/home , from here you will be able to then print-off your bar-code which will enable you to be timed at the event and review results going forward. Again the event is completely free of charge.
We would like any regular runner from Pumas through to the elites to attend and to bring the kids if they are capable of completing the 5km course. Our very own Matthew Pierson is the course record holder in a time of 15:57, Matthew will be down on the day in his final preparations for the Dublin Marathon and we would also like to see some of Alwyn's speed group take the mantle at the front of the event and give Matthew a run for his money !!!
If you are injured at the minute or racing on the 23rd, we have volunteer roles available including tag timing and marshalling. Again to reflect the community attitude we have at the club. At the end of your run, there will be an opportunity to meet up for a coffee with other runners of similar abilites.
Since April over 50 Harriers have ran the Parkrun at least once and such is the appeal of Parkrun John Philpott has suggested a target of 100 harriers for the day.
This is more than achievable and would be Fantastic. So come on, lets show the rest of Kirklees why we are the UKA athletics club of the year and have a sea of amber vests running around the park.
If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to speak to either Simon Edwards, Matthew Rose or Diane Kolat who will happy to answer any questions. We hope to see you all on the 22nd October.
