Northern U20 3000m Championships
Holmfirth Harries AC Max Kaye continued his excellent track season when the North of England U20 Championships was incorporated into the Trafford Grand Prix meeting on 12th July.
It was Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton Ac Toby Loveridge who set the early pace with Max sitting tight in 2nd place. Thomas Traviss-Pollard was also in the leading group of five who went through the first four laps in 4mins 34secs. Loveridge and Max broke away with a 1000m to go and entered the last lap together. Max made his effort with 250m remaining, but had to surge again as he entered the home straight before finally breaking Loveridge. He took the gold medal with a time of 8mins 31.16secs, a new personal best by 30secs. Meanwhile Thomas lost out in the battle for the bronze medal in the final 800m eventually finishing fifth in 8mins 44.23secs, another massive personal best by 18secs.
Claire Leaver ran 5mins 18secs in the ‘D’ race of the open 1500m. In the ‘A’ race, world class athlete Lisa Dobriskey recorded 4mins 4secs as she prepares for the Aviva World trials to be held in Birmingham on the weekend of the 29th -31st July.
Finally Holmfirth’s leading field event athlete Jenny Ibbitson finished 5th in the Hammer with a throw of 40.05m and 6th in the Discus with 27.81m.
